Why choose the Ashley Frantanna Queen Panel Storage Bed PCB949B4?
The Ashley Frantanna PCB949B4 uses a storage format that works differently from a drawer bed: the footboard opens as a double-hinged storage bench, creating concealed space that can be accessed from the end of the bed without side drawers competing with nightstands. That makes the compartment useful for extra bedding, blankets, seasonal linens or other larger bedroom items that benefit from one wider storage area instead of several smaller drawers. The tall 74-inch headboard and richly detailed brown finish give the bed a more substantial traditional presence, so wall height and overall room scale matter as much as floor space. Construction combines hardwood solids, birch veneer and MDF substrate. Unlike some storage beds with mattress-support slats, this configuration requires a separate foundation, which is sold separately. This version is the Queen storage bed (PCB949B4); King and California King sizes are also available for shoppers who need a wider sleeping surface.

What exactly is included with the Ashley Frantanna PCB949B4, and how does the footboard storage work?
The PCB949B4 is the Queen panel storage-bed configuration and includes the panel headboard, storage footboard and panel rails. Instead of pullout drawers, the footboard has a double-hinged top that opens to reveal concealed bench-style storage. That gives you one larger storage area for items such as spare sheets, blankets, pillows or seasonal bedding rather than dividing the space into smaller drawer compartments. Because access is from the foot of the bed, nightstands can stay beside the mattress without blocking the storage. This is an important distinction when
comparing built-in bed storage with a standard bed and separate bedroom furniture.
How much room does the Frantanna PCB949B4 need to open the storage footboard comfortably?
The bed itself is approximately 92 inches deep, and you also need usable standing room at the footboard because the storage is accessed by lifting the hinged top. A practical target is roughly 24–30 inches of open floor space beyond the footboard so you can stand, lift the lid and reach into the compartment without a bench, dresser or wall getting in the way. That clearance is general bedroom-planning guidance rather than an Ashley specification. With a 70.5-inch width and 74-inch-tall headboard, the Frantanna is better suited to a room where both the foot-of-bed circulation and the tall wall profile can be accommodated comfortably. Planning
bed placement together with dressers, benches and bedroom walkways
is especially important with this configuration.
Does the Ashley Frantanna PCB949B4 need a box spring or foundation?
Yes. A separate foundation is required for the Frantanna PCB949B4 and is sold separately. The mattress is also sold separately. That makes this bed different from platform-style storage beds that include a complete slat system designed to support the mattress directly. When planning the finished bed height, include both the mattress and foundation rather than judging the setup from the frame dimensions alone. Understanding
the difference between platform support and a traditional mattress-and-foundation setup
can help determine what additional components you need before delivery.
