Why choose the Ashley Darborn Lift-Top Coffee Table T796-00?
The Ashley Darborn T796-00 combines several useful living-room functions in one 35.5-inch-square table. Its split hinged lift top creates a raised surface for occasional sofa meals, laptop work or other seated activities while also providing concealed storage. Two drawers with fully finished interiors and metal ball-bearing side glides add organized storage, and the open lower shelf provides a large accessible area for books, baskets or display pieces. Casters make the 125-pound table easier to reposition. A brown cherry-stained planked top, glazed light gray finish and aged iron-tone hardware give the multifunctional design a relaxed farmhouse look.

How much room does the Ashley Darborn T796-00 need in front of a sofa or sectional?

The Darborn measures 35.5" × 35.5" when closed, so it has a substantial square footprint rather than a narrow small-room profile. A practical starting point is to leave about 14–18 inches between the coffee table and sofa for comfortable reach and circulation, as explained in our coffee-table clearance and walkway guide. When the lift top is extended, the overall depth reaches 45.88 inches, so the seating area also needs enough room for the surface to move toward the user. The broader principles in our coffee-table sizing and selection guide can help when comparing this square footprint with your sofa or sectional layout.

Can the Darborn T796-00 be used for working or eating from the sofa?

Yes, for occasional sofa-based work, meals or similar activities. The lift top raises the surface from 19 inches to 27 inches high and brings it closer to the seated user. That ability to change both working height and reach is one of the practical differences when comparing a lift-top with a standard coffee table. Comfort will still depend on your sofa seat height, seat depth and how the table is positioned.

What storage does the Ashley Darborn T796-00 provide?

The Darborn combines concealed lift-top storage, two drawers and a large open lower shelf. The top opening measures 19.75" W × 16.5" D × 6.25" H, while each drawer interior measures 11.63" W × 14.25" D × 3.25" H. The lower opening spans 35" W × 35" D × 6.25" H, providing substantial accessible space for baskets, books or other living-room items. This mix of hidden, drawer and open storage lets different types of items be organized within one table.
