Why choose the Ashley Altari Slate Sofa 8721338?
The Ashley Altari Slate 8721338 combines a clean contemporary look with straightforward everyday seating and proportions that are easier to place than many oversized sofas. Track arms, slate-gray chenille-feel upholstery and simple cushion lines give it a polished appearance without making the room feel overly heavy. Its 20-inch seat height and 20-inch seat depth create a more upright, compact sitting profile than extra-deep lounge sofas, while the loose foam seat cushions offer a firmer-feeling seating surface. With 70 inches between the arms, it still provides a broad usable seating area, and two patterned accent pillows add contrast to the Slate finish. The Altari is also available in Alloy (8721438), giving you a lighter neutral color option.

How much wall and floor space does the Ashley Altari Sofa 8721338 need?
The Ashley Altari 8721338 is 85 inches wide, so 85 inches is the minimum clear wall width needed for the sofa itself. For visual balance, a sofa often works well when it occupies roughly 60–75% of the usable wall; for the Altari, that suggests a wall of about 113–142 inches, with roughly 127–128 inches, or about 10 feet 8 inches, close to the two-thirds proportion. These are room-planning guidelines rather than Ashley requirements. At 38 inches deep, the Altari also leaves a somewhat smaller front-to-back footprint than many deeper sofas. If a coffee table sits in front, allowing about 14–18 inches between the sofa and table helps maintain comfortable reach and movement. Our
sofa fit and room-planning guide
puts those dimensions into the context of the whole living room. For delivery, the listed minimum doorway width is 32 inches.
What do the Altari's 20-inch seat height and 20-inch seat depth mean for sitting?
With both seat height and seat depth at 20 inches, the Altari has a less sprawling seating profile than sofas built around extra-deep cushions. The shallower depth may suit people who prefer to sit with their back closer to the back cushion and their feet nearer the floor rather than sinking far into the seat. The 20-inch height is also useful to compare against a sofa or chair you already find comfortable. Body height, leg length and posture still affect how any sofa feels, so our
guide to choosing sofa seat depth
explains how different measurements influence upright sitting and lounging.
What are the upholstery and cushions like on the Altari Slate sofa?
The Altari uses polyester upholstery with a soft chenille-like feel, paired with high-quality foam seat cushions wrapped in poly fiber. The back cushions are attached, while the seat cushions are loose, creating a cleaner back profile with more flexibility at the seating surface. Its track arms and simple cushion shapes give the sofa a contemporary appearance, while the two included patterned pillows add contrast to the Slate upholstery. Cushion construction and upholstery texture affect comfort in different ways; our
guide to how sofa cushions and upholstery work together
explains those components in more detail.
